Rule 1) Declare war on cheap

Explanation: Cheap items are not your friend. In fact they are your enemy and you should declare war on them (or if you prefer an authorization to use force). Cheap items can be both inexpensive or expensive, but they all consist of two components:

• poor materials
• unskilled craftsmanship/design

What constitutes cheap at Modern Lawyer is dictated by its price point. When recommending products price is an important consideration, but whether an item is worth owning depends upon what else can be bought for the same amount of money.

Rule 2) There are (almost) always options at different price points

Explanation: This is Rule 1’s cousin. Nearly everything a lawyer needs to own is available for different budgets. The job of this site is to point out what those options are. The goal is to identify a needed item and then offer a less expensive option, a high end option, and something in the middle while still observing Rule 1.

Rule 3) Technology should make life more efficient for lawyers

Explanation: Efficiency is historically a bad word for lawyers who are paid by the hour. Modern Lawyers disagree. They want to be more efficient because it is better for their clients, and it is better for the lawyer. Understanding and embracing technology advancements are the lawyers best chance to become more efficient.
